CLASSROOM SETUP TIPS

Class Set Up Ideas for Busy Teachers

Setting up a classroom with fun and happy colors doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. Learn how to SETUP your classroom on a budget.

TIP #1 BASICS

Basics never go out of style. They will last you for years to come. I love bins in white and clear.

TIP #2 BULLETIN BOARDS

These displays are important because they take up so much space in a classroom that setting them up first makes it look like you’ve got a lot done. Bulletin boards can quickly add visual interest. The best advice I can give you on covering bulletin boards is to use black fabric that has a bit of stretch to it. It won’t fade with the sun like butcher paper and you can pat it if it gets dusty. You can easily fold fabric to store it.

TIP #3 COLOR

One of the most important parts of planning your classroom theme is deciding on a color scheme. I used to gravitate toward the basic primary colors, but lately I’m into black and white stripes with pops of bright colors.

BINS

Once you’ve selected your colors, you’re ready to gather bins, storage containers, and accessories in your colors. I suggest going to the Dollar Tree bin aisle. They have a huge selection of bins. If you can’t find the colors you want you can always opt for black and white. This will give you a clean look and you can add in color with labels.

TIP #4 NEEDS and WANTS

Make a list of the things you need in your classroom and the things that you want. I always start with my classroom rules and hand signals.

TIP #5 DRAW YOUR LAYOUT

Draw you classroom layout over and over again. Think about how your students will move in the room and keep supplies in a convenient location.
